About

Pierro Pozella’s practise explores the alternative ways in which we can perceive our world by using the heart and soul of photography. With many of us growing up in a world where we are told how to perceive colour, time and space we become bound to this information struggling to see beyond what has been embedded into our minds throughout our lives.

Pierro believes that it is particularly important to question if what we see is the whole truth. Most recently, he has begun to explore animal relationships with the human world. He is interested in how we as humans are limited in visible perception. By developing cameras to go beyond these limitations, he shares light on effects that are taking place not visible to humans to bring a closer understanding to a world we cannot see.

Thinking through making often provides a rich starting point for his development. He applies considered methods when working using first hand research - such as emerging himself in environments for extended periods of time, as an act of experiential research

Pierro’s practice also considers the importance of understanding the animal world from a different perspective and the positive effects this can have for the scientific community, by collaborating with scientists to inform the work and methods applied throughout the research projects.

With an MA in Information Experience and Design  from the Royal College of Art, Pierro’s experiential-led-research methods regard his methods of photography as an expanded and progressive form. Rather than seeing it conventionally as something fixed or singular, he values the act of ‘photography’ as a process. A way of showing, activating or experiencing something -  by doing.
